It was sad to hear he died so young...didn't even get to finish college. He was a sweet guy and the light of his mother's life. I can't imagine how she got through losing him. (See update I posted about his date of death.)
PS I think everyone of us girls who were in 5th grade with him and his mom, had a crush!!!!
I knew Steve from Harris Elementary, where his mom taught our fifth grade class. Steve was a very gentle man even in his youth, and always had a smile ready to cheer you up.
Yep... I remember Steve. We did have a few moments together in the halls. I think we had a slugging contest once...you know, you hit my shoulder, I'll hit yours and see who lasts the longest. It was a tie, but my shoulder was really sore.
I also met Stephen in the 5 th grade. I thought he was very cute. His mother was our teacher,I was afraid of her.She was very very hard on him. I felt sorry for him. He was so quiet. I noticed it says he died in 1999, I thought he was very young when he died, like still in college.
Just checked my yearbook where I write updates...Steve died July 21, 1966 in an auto accident in Syracuse, NY. I believe he was going or coming from college. So the 1999 death in California is not our classmate.

Still remember the day I heard the tragic news about Steve's death. What heartbreaking news! A shy boy and so sweet, I had a crush.James "Tom" Croley
