From: Stephen Hansel

Mimi and Steve Hansel married in 1968. They had two sons, Derek and Andrew, and adopted a daughter, Paula. While Steve was in college and grad school, they lived in Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, Florida, New York and New Jersey.

Mimi and Steve settled in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1971, when Steve took a job with Barnett Banks. Mimi was active in civic affairs with the Junior League, League of Women Voters and the Jacksonville Museum of Art. She had a special interest in recidivism, and worked on programs to help prison inmates develop skills and interests to help them return to productive lives.

In 1982, Mimi was diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, and given two and a half to three years to live. In December 1984, she and Steve founded The Foundation for Pulmonary Hypertension, Inc., which Steve continues to run, as President. This was the first such foundation related to her rare condition. Mimi passed away on March 25, 1985.
