Stan Higginbotham

Stan Higginbotham

Stan passed away in Houston on May 15, 2019 during surgery to repair multiple aneurysms.  He is survived by his wife, Deborah, daughter, Rebecca and a number of grandchildren.  Stan never truly retired.  He was always involved in some sort of charity work, including flying to Haiti for humanitarian reasons.  He will be deeply missed by those who loved and knew him.  RIP Stan.

I was surprised and saddend to hear of Stan's passing.  I have fond memories of him. He was always upbeat and enthusiastic. I particularly remember riding around in his Valiant convertable on summer nights, eating pizza and drinking beer.  He contacted me after he joined the NEHI website a few years ago.  We agreed to meet and catch up on old times but did not follow through which I really regret now.

Stan and I went to my first and only Daytona 500. Back then we could park and pitch a tent on the infield. Though a Plymouth Valiant convertible was mentioned in a previous post. I'm pretty sure we drove a Chtysler 300...maybe his folk's. It was a white convertible with (I think) white Interior. I'm going to Houston in a couple of weeks and will try to place a flag where my friend and fellow vet is resting.

I hate to hear of Stan's passing.  He was my ride to NEHI my senior year (I think I paid him a staggering $25 a week) so I did get to know him well and he truly was an outstanding person.  We did make contact a few years ago and were going to try to meet up some time, but as often happens good intentions never lead to action.  I regret that we did not.  He will be missed.
